Other Enquiries

There are other checks and enquiries which we strongly advise you to carry out:

Ask your lawyer to examine the local development plan to ensure that no construction or developments are planned for the area. You don’t want to end up living next to a 20 metre-tall concrete wall.

If buying in a development, check the regulations governing the development as well as any obligatory condominium charges. If you are buying a plot of land in an urbanization, check the urbanization building regulations.

All of these checks and enquiries will add to your legal expenses but we bet you’d rather pay a few hundred pounds upfront to make sure everything is in order instead of paying for huge changes later. Through these enquiries you will fully understand all the obligations you are taking on when making this investment. It should not be assumed that Portuguese laws and building regulations are the same as those required in your home country. Do the smart thing and spend a little money and time in the beginning instead of a lot in the long run.
